Say Hi To The Kids From Kate & Allie
(Tiger Beat Magazine - April 1986)

You love tuning into the show every week, but haven't you ever wondered what Ari Meyers, Allison Smith and Frederick Koehler are really like? When STAR stopped bu the studio to say hi, the kids were very excited about talking to you! (By Sean Daly)

STAR - How long does it take the three of you to prepare for your roles?

Allison - The first taping is a dress rehearsal and the later show is the real thing.

Ari - You do the same thing twice, but they need two just to get the best of it

STAR - How did you get your part of the show?

Ari - Through interviews. I remember Allison and I went on the same one. We were in the same room together.

STAR - What did they make you do?

Fred - They made us read lines and we had to fight.

Allison - Not a real fight (laughs)

STAR - Tell me more about yourselves. What kind of music do you like?

Allison - You know, the regular top 40. I also like to listen to a lot of old stuff too.

Fred - I like Van Halen and Twisted Sister a little bit. I like Prince, Apollonia 6.

STAR - Are you still fans of other people? Would you wait for someone else's autograph?

Ari - Not for an autograph. We're not really fans that we would follow people around or anything. But I think we are fans to a certain extent with music

Allison - See, being in show business and seeing such big stars like Susan Saint James and Jane Curtin and coming to the realization that they're really people.

STAR - What was it like meeting the President?

Ari - I wasn't intimidated by the President. I was excited and felt priviledged to meet him. I was awestruck , but not intimidated

STAR - That must have been fun. It seems you're all growing up so quickly.

Allison - I don't agree with what you said. "We're growing up quickly." If anything, we're getting more out of life, maybe a little faster than most kids our age.

Fred - We still go to school and go to the park and play dodge ball...

Ari - He does (laughs)

STAR - So your characters are a lot like you really are?

Ari - No. I think our roles fit us really well. I don't think I could be Jenny and she could be me. It's funny because when we auditioned, I read for Jenny and she was supposed to be Emma. But I think things have worked out great!
